Robert H. Smithson, MD

Robert H. Smithson, MD, a Virginia native, has been practicing Internal Medicine at Boylan Medical since 1992. He was born and raised in a large family in Richmond where he attended The Collegiate Schools. He graduated from the University of Virginia and then continued his education at UVA, getting his MD in 1986. While in medical school, he met a classmate, Anne, whom he would marry in 1986. Their family now includes two teenage sons, Rob and Connor. He did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Charlotte Memorial Hospital before practicing in Richmond for three years. In 1992 he joined Boylan Medical and has been in Raleigh ever since. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1986.

His interests in medicine include preventative care and outpatient cardiology. Outside of medicine he is very involved in the life of his family but still finds time to coach youth lacrosse and watch his sons play on their various sports teams. He is also active in his local Baptist church where he helps lead a Sunday school class. He loves to follow college sports, particularly if it involves the athletic teams of the University of Virginia.
